Edit-a-thon

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2021

March 9th, 2021 12:00pm - March 11th, 2021 11:59am PST

Vancouver, Online
Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery

Join us and help balance representational imbalances!

The Belkin invites participants of all genders and expressions to a virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Each March, art communities around the world converge to help correct Wikipedia’s gendered biases and improve the content of under-represented persons on the tenth most visited site in the world.

Help balance the imbalance by creating and editing Wikipedia articles about women, LGBTQ2S+, gender non-binary, people of colour, Black and Indigenous artists, curators and organizations as well as feminist and activist art movements. We’ll provide help for beginner Wikipedians, reference materials and technical support for making your edits.

Before the Edit-a-thon, join these How-to Edit Workshops on:

  • Thursday, February 25 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm: Introduction to the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon and How to Get Started
  • Wednesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 pm: Citations How-to Workshop with Sara Ellis

All workshops and drop-in Wikipedia support hours will take place online via Zoom. To register, email belkin.rsvp@ubc.ca with your name and affiliation, if any.

Then, join us for the multi-day Virtual Drop-In Edit-a-thon from Tuesday, March 9 through Thursday March 11, daily from 12 to 2 pm. For a list of suggested artists and more resources for getting started, visit our event page on Wikipedia.

Together, let’s change things.
