Indigenous Community Work

In 2020-2021, Art+Feminism started a pilot initiative with Thérèse Ottawa and Sadik Shahadu to support their ongoing work in the Atikamekw and Dagbani languages on Wikipedia as inaugural Art+Feminism Indigenous Communities Ambassadors. In addition, we’re supported Wikimedia Norge to add more circumpolar content from Indigenous perspectives. Art+Feminism will provide technical support for the events and training materials.

In 2022, the West African Indigenous Language Coordinator role was created as the evolution of the pilot Indigenous Ambassador role created in 2020-2021. This role is focused on identifying and uplifting smaller language Wikipedia communities in West Africa by providing support to these communities through training, workshops, and campaigns. Sadik Shahadu will continue holding this role in 2023.
